Mistakes Business’ Make on Social Media
Social media has become a powerful and effective marketing tool. Yet some people, brands and business’ keep making these mistakes when building a business on social media, they just don’t get it.
They don’t understand why it’s not working for them, and they keep doing the same things over and over and don’t get the results they want. They keep making these common mistakes when building a business on social media.
Instead of saying what I am doing isn’t working, they just default to social media doesn’t work for me. Or this online business doesn’t work. Rarely do people want to look within, and look at that they are doing that could be better.
So I am just going to call it out. If you are doing these things it could be WHY, you aren’t getting new clients, customers and leads into your business!
COMMON MISTAKE #1 when building a business on social media
Using too many graphics or only graphics on social media. A graphic of a product or using a stock image turns people off. If it looks like it could be in a catalog, a traditional advertisement it probably doesn’t belong on social media.
PEOPLE DO NOT want to be sold to.
Stop doing it! Re-create an image by putting the product in your hands. Brand yourself with the product. Take a picture and post it. That is more acceptable than just using a stock photo.
Become a storyteller with your words and pictures.
COMMON MISTAKE #2 WHEN BUILDING A BUSINESS ON SOCIAL MEDIA
Focusing on quantity over quality. If I just post a lot of times, I will get someone to buy my products, Or get someone to join my team!! Instead of taking that time and creating a quality post that pulls at some emotion, tells a story, gets people to raise their hand and identify themselves.
It’s like posting and praying. It’s not going to work often, well and it is a horrible strategy if you are in your business for the long haul.
So instead of posting often and just post to post. Think about what your message is, what are you trying to accomplish with the post. Who are you talking to and what is in it for them. NURTURE THE LEADS EACH POST GETS YOU.
COMMON MISTAKE #3 WHEN BUILDING A BUSINESS ON SOCIAL MEDIA
Ignoring your followers, their comments and your posts. You make a post get a few likes, maybe a comment or two. Then what? Most of you ignore those few people.
Try giving them some comments and love back. Send them a message and check in on them. See if they need anything you can help with. Be a kind human.
Thank them for liking your post. Reply to the comments. If it’s a heart, leave them a heart.
Don’t ignore the people who are interacting with you on social media!! It’s called Social Media, so be social!
COMMON MISTAKE #4 WHEN BUILDING A BUSINESS ON SOCIAL MEDIA
Being on all social media platforms. Master 1 first, like truly master it. If you can’t get sales from 1, you aren’t going to get sales from being on more. You aren’t getting sales more than likely because you aren’t using the platform properly.
By adding more platforms, you are going to spread yourself thinner, and get back into the post and pray mentality.
I was using multiple platforms, after I got really great at FB. Well when I started getting really good at IG, I was getting so many leads, I couldn’t keep up and didn’t have the proper automation and team in place. So I had to back off. I got back in my lane for the time being and am putting most of my energy and work into FB.
You don’t have to be everywhere and you shouldn’t be if you can’t make one work you aren’t going to make others work.
Side note, you need to know your audience, If your ideal customers are in linkedin that is where you should be! If they are in IG, be there. But just know you don’t have to be everywhere.
COMMON MISTAKE #5 WHEN BUILDING A BUSINESS ON SOCIAL MEDIA
Not having one on one conversations. If it’s someone’s birthday with them a Happy Birthday! Or if someone you know just bought a new house congratulate them! Facebook will make the connection and your posts will start showing up on their news feed. This can happen in comments on inside messenger.
On social media you have got to get Social!

This list could have been much much longer.
This was just a great starting point. I see so many people wanting to utilize the power of social media, yet they just don’t get it. They aren’t reading blogs like this or watching videos to get better.
They just start posting more, then posting on multiple platforms more, then they get busier and start putting out more graphics and worse posts getting them less time, and NO RESULTS!
Start with these changes, and grow your skills from there.
