4 Steps on How To Tell Your Story
We talked about WHY we need to share our story in another episode, titled 2 Reason WHY You Should Share Your Story, today is all about How to tell your story. In that episode we mentioned our prospective client and customers don’t care about us. They want to know what’s in it for them.
So why tell our story?!?!?
That is easy, so they can relate to us, trust us and then start to do business with us.
A mentor of mine once said, “The person who shares their story the most wins!”
The reason for that is because people can relate to stories emotionally. There’s a saying, “Facts tell and Stories sell.”
In this show I am going to give you 4 steps to sharing your story so you can practice your own story.
How to tell your Story - step 1
Your Background – Share something about you and where you are coming from. What do/did for a living?
An example is, I was a salon owner. I opened it at the age of 19 and I owned it for 11 and a half years. I’m the middle child that’s why I’m so tough because I have an older brother and a younger brother. I am raised in small-town Indiana population 300. That’s a background about me.
Maybe you’re a nurse. Maybe you’re a stay-at-home mom, maybe you’re a widow or maybe your a student. Just say a few facts about you and your background. This makes you relatable!!
How to tell your story - step 2
Challenges – What challenges are you facing or were you facing?
It’s a safe bet to say that every person we know is lacking in one of these 4 areas; Time, Security, Money or Health.
When you start thinking about what it is you don’t like, or didn’t like, touch on one of those 4 areas.
Example: I love the beauty industry. However, I was missing out on the people and things that mean the most to me. I had a child who I only saw for short amount of time. I’d see her in the morning and see her in the evening.
Missing my childhood best friend’s father’s funeral because I had to work, missing weddings, missing birthday parties. I was missing wrestling tournaments, baseball games and I was missing out on the people and things that meant the most me.

HOW TO tell YOUR STORY - STEP 3
What happened? – What happened that cause you to make a change or what happened that cause you to start a side hustle or what happened next?
You want to do this step without mentioning your products or service.
Someone brought me a product that I’ve already said “no” to. I gave it a try, shared with a few people and started making money while I was sleeping.
I knew if I put as much time into this opportunity as I was the salon I would be able to generate income from anywhere in the world giving me free time.
HOW TO tell YOUR STORY - STEP 4
Future – What’s in it for the future?
When I started working in this new social selling business model, I sold the salon I owned for 11.5 years to be with my family. I also quickly realized I could save my commissions for retirement.
So with this business mode I’m making money while I’m sleeping, I have money sat aside to pay for Ruby’s College. I can pay for Ruby’s wedding, family vacations and I have time freedom.
HOW TO tell YOUR STORY - wrap up
That is your story. I suggest you sit down, write this out and practice, practice and practice!!
Onve you got this down you can use this anywhere. Networking events, in social media posts, in your live videos, when someone asks you what you do, etc!!!!
It’s going to be way way way longer in the beginning then it needs to be. Ask yourself….Does this detail matter?
