5 Ways to Get Better Pictures for Social Media
5 Ways to Get Better Pictures for Social Media using your smartphone.
Today, more than ever, social media is crucial to reaching more people and influencing their preferences. So how do you make sure your social media stands out? Especially in a time where people have attention spans of less than ten seconds?
Whether you want to become an Instagram influencer or just use social media to boost your business, you need quality images for social media and I am sharing 5 ways to get better pictures for social media using your smartphone.
We live in the age where everyone has a camera in their pocket.
Social media content with an image attracted 94% more views on average than content without images.
If “a picture is worth 1,000 words” than you have to have the best-looking pictures.
Also today a pictures is also worth a thousand pins on Pinterest, a 1,000 shares on FB and hearts on Instagram.
You need pictures that are scroll stoppers. That grab your audience’s attention.
So let’s jump in and talk about 5 ways to get better pictures for social media.
Tip #1 to better pictures - Clean the Lense
First things first. Before you EVER snap a photo, make sure your phone lense is wiped off. It never fails there are always fingerprints, moisturizer or some unknown substance smeared on mine.
So I will say it again. Always clean your phone camera lens with a soft cloth before you take a picture.
Tip #2 to better pictures - Use the Grid
The what you say? The GRID, enable the grid on your phone camera.
Framing up your shot is one part of creating the image itself. The grid will assist you in making sure you aren’t capturing any unwanted subjects while you shoot.
In photography, the rule of thirds is a type of composition where the subject is placed at the intersection of the dividing lines, or along one of them.
The rule of thirds is one of the most basic skills in photography.
This will make your photos look more balanced and visually appealing.
You want to put your subject and anything worthwhile in your photo where these lines cross.
Tip #3 to better pictures - Ditch the Zoom
Another rookie mistake I see people make is using the zoom feature.
Zooming manually is not a good idea, unless you are using a professional camera.
You don’t need a professional camera, smartphone are good enough! They are actually great!
However, you’ll lose quality of photo when you start zooming in.
If you can’t get closer to your subject, take the picture from where you are, and use the rule of thirds to improve the composition.
After the photo’s taken, crop it to whatever you want.
Tip #4 to better pictures - Look For Light
Flash from a phone doesn’t flatter anyone, no matter what pose you’re striking. And glaring light gives your pictures a harsh, odd-colored look compared to diffused light.
Instead of using an underpowered flash fon your phone, try other sources of light, such as the sun, or face out a window. If you’re really at a loss for light, you could always employ another smartphone’s flashlight mode to provide a more consistent light source.
One of my all time favorite light sources for my dark dreary office is a ring light!
Tip #5 to better pictures - Take candids
You don’t always want to take pictures of your products. Like rarely should you ever do this. That is another training topic for another day!
People make great subjects for social media. In fact, photos with faces get 38% more likes and 32% more comments than photos without them.
It doesn’t always need to be a posed shot.
Candid shots put a human element into your brand. They let people be themselves rather than pose for the camera.
The reason this works is that people behave naturally when doing something.
This is a chance for you to showcase how your products and services can be used.
I also like the idea of taking candid pics of not only you, but also your family, team, co workers or employees. This will create an authentic connection with your audience. They will realize there’s real people behind your brand.
